From Eastern Scheldt to offshore industry
DMAC35, based on research of Risberg and van Ooij, recommends to replace UPTD (OTU) by ESOT to monitor hyperoxic exposure in diving. However, Oxygen Toxicity Units (UPTD) have been in use for over 50 years to predict whole body oxygen toxicity and not only pulmonary oxygen toxicity.
For now it seems wise to follow both units, so future experience will show which unit is to be preferred (or maybe both?).
The aid of a simple to use calculator that we developed may help in this matter for ANY decompression or treatment table.
